Temporary Pond Isolation for Outfall Installation
Chasetown Civil Engineering Ltd required a temporary water control solution at Newport Bloors to facilitate the installation of a new outfall pipe within an existing pond.
The works involved installing the pipe, together with a supporting headwall and debris screen to protect the new outfall and prevent debris entering the pipe. To carry out the installation, a corner section of the pond needed to be isolated and dewatered, creating a suitable working area.
High Water proposed a 15-metre, three-sided EUR150 Geodesign Temporary Works Barrier to isolate the required section of the pond.
The modular frame dam system provided a temporary barrier around the working area, allowing the client to dewater the enclosed section and undertake the outfall installation works.
Following a site survey, the installation was planned around a prepared stone base. Approximately 20 tonnes of stone was required to level the pond bed and provide a stable foundation for the barrier frames.
High Water's scope included site surveying, temporary works design, supply and installation of the barrier, with removal following completion of the works.
The three-sided Geodesign Barrier arrangement provided a targeted approach to isolating the corner of the pond, avoiding the need to dewater the entire water body.
Creating a localised dry working area allowed the client to access the required section of the pond for the installation of the new outfall pipe, headwall and debris screen.
The project demonstrates how High Water's modular temporary dam systems can support drainage infrastructure works within existing ponds and other water bodies, providing controlled working areas for construction and maintenance activities.
