Cofferdam Installation for Weir Investigation, River Darent
CET, on behalf of Dartford Borough Council, commissioned Robert Nicholas to install a temporary cofferdam at Acacia Hall on the River Darent, Dartford.
The works required the river to be isolated to create a dewatered area for concrete core sampling. Before installation, silt and vegetation were cleared from the riverbed to prepare the site. The cofferdam was then installed in a C-shaped arrangement to enclose the required work area and facilitate the investigation.
A C-shaped temporary cofferdam was installed to isolate the designated section of the River Darent.
Following installation, a specialist subcontractor removed fish and wildlife from the enclosed area before it was pumped out. This created dry working conditions for the client to take concrete core samples from the riverbed, with the isolation arrangement providing a defined working area within the watercourse.
The temporary cofferdam provided a controlled, dewatered working area, allowing investigation works to proceed within the river.
The approach accommodated the site's requirements while accounting for ecological considerations. By enabling fish and wildlife to be removed before dewatering, the works incorporated an important environmental consideration while providing the client with access to the concrete riverbed for core sampling.
